1. The direction and width of the straight transverse grooves support balanced performance, especially handling. 2. Smooth transverse grooves aid water evacuation in dry and wet operation. 3. Computer-modelled pitch offsets and wide grooves help reduce noise. 4. Originally developed for passenger cars, the pattern is also used on some minivans and pick-ups; its pattern code is retained.
